Image of Identity

Identity in Image is a photography project in which the unseen is seen: the unity, the inner and outer image. This requires more than good composition, proper lighting and a golden ratio. Getting identity into the picture requires "depth" in the image.

People are not uniform. We have multiple nationalities, functions and roles. All those traits and elements coalesce into what we call identity. This is often the opposite of the caricature presented in media. The "depth" of true identity is the focus of this project. We examine (pre)judgments, clichés and typical characteristics of (target) groups and our own. In the end, it is not about the external facts listed in your passport but about what you consider important and what values you express.

Documentary filmmakers and artists create a new story with each new project. Who we are and where we are going is very important in this. From this thought, this project was born. Thinking about what subjects are important to you gives direction to life. Man acts according to what she imagines.

The exhibition consists of collages of the inner self and portraits of the outer self.

Photographic portraits are taken with the same light, point of view and background.

These portraits are arranged based on core values derived from the collages.

For the collage of the inner self, we will explore your intrinsic values together. Your identity is the interplay of all your personal characteristics and traits.Together we examine which images, shapes and colors belong to this.Then we look at what design suits you.This takes 2 hours and can be done online or in the studio.Then I make the collage for you.

The goal of the exhibition is that once we have captured our own identity in images, we can shift our gaze to the other. Curiosity about the other person is aroused and now goes beyond the first impression. Whereas a first impression is often formed on the basis of appearance, the tendency now is to look beyond. Beyond the outward appearance, eloquence is sought, what the non-visible tells us.
